[First Eye Center] Seeing floaters or specks drifting in your vision? 'Floaters' (Myodesopsia) 🪰

Seeing floaters or specks drifting in your vision?
'Floaters' (Myodesopsia) 🪰

Floaters appear as shimmering or drifting shapes in bright light that move with your eyes.

Most cases are natural and just need monitoring, but treatment may be needed if symptoms worsen.

🚨 See a doctor if you also experience:
✔ Sudden flashes of light (photopsia)
✔ Dark spots or blocked vision
✔ Eye pain, redness, or vision loss

Even simple-looking floaters can be linked to retinal disease,
regular check-ups are key! ☺️

[First Eye Center] What Causes Dry Eye Disease? How is Dry Eye Treated?

What Causes Dry Eye Disease? How is Dry Eye Treated?

By First Eye Center | Eye Health & Vision Care

If your eyes have been feeling scratchy, tired, or uncomfortable lately, you might be experiencing one of the most common, yet most overlooked - eye conditions in the world: Dry Eye Disease.

But what exactly is happening inside your eye when it becomes dry? And how is it different from a healthy, well-functioning eye?

A healthy eye maintains a stable, consistent tear film that coats the surface of the eye. This tear film is made up of three essential layers - oil, water, and mucus - that work together to keep your eye moist, protected, and clear.

What Happens in a Dry Eye?

In a dry eye, the tear film breaks down. This can happen because the eye doesn't produce enough tears, or because the tears evaporate too quickly, often due to a condition called Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).

SymptomWhat It Means
Burning or stingingTear film instability
RednessSurface inflammation
Blurry visionIrregular tear film coating
GrittinessDry patches on the cornea
Watery eyesReflex tearing from dryness

How is Dry Eye Treated?

  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Therapy - one of the most advanced and effective treatments for MGD-related dry eye. IPL targets abnormal blood vessels and unclogs the meibomian glands to restore healthy oil production.
  • Meibomian gland expression
  • Prescription anti-inflammatory eye drops

Your eyes deserve more than temporary relief. Whether you're dealing with burning, redness, blurry vision, or grittiness, our team is here to help you find lasting solutions.

[First Eye Center] Better Vision After 40

Clear Vision Insights for Cataract & Presbyopia

Welcome to our vision care blog dedicated to cataract surgery and presbyopia correction. We share expert information about modern eye treatments, lens technology, recovery tips, and ways to improve quality of life through better vision.

Whether you are exploring cataract surgery or searching for alternatives to reading glasses, our goal is to help you make informed decisions with confidence.

1. What is Cataract?

Cataracts occur when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, causing blurry vision, glare and difficulty seeing at night.

Common Symptoms:

- Blurry or foggy vision
- Increased glare from lights
- Difficulty driving at night
- Frequent prescription changes
- Colors appearing faded

How to treat?

Modern cataract surgery is safe, fast, and minimally invasive. Many patients experience significantly improved vision within a few days after surgery.

Cataract surgery removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL).

Recovery

Most patients return to daily activities within a few days. Full visual stabilization may take several weeks depending on the eye condition and lens type.

2. Why does near vision become blurry after 40? [Presbyopia]

Presbyopia is a natural aging process that reduces the eye's ability to focus on near objects. Many people begin noticing symptoms in their 40s.

Common Symptoms:

- Difficulty reading small texts

- Holding phones farther away

- Headaches after reading

How to treat?

- Reading glasses

- Lens replacement surgery

- Multifocal or trifocal lens implants

Modern vision correction technology can reduce dependence on reading glasses and improve daily convenience.

Successful Health Seminar with Renowned Eye Specialist

On  May 1,2, and 4nd, Dr.Yun Sam young, Chief Doctor of First Eye Center, was invited to lead a series of health seminars in Buena Park and Los Angeles — a truly meaningful series of events for the local Korean-American community.

These seminars were thoughtfully organized for members of the Korean-American community who have long faced challenges in accessing quality eye care — whether due to language barriers, limited local specialist availability, or unfamiliarity with the Korean medical system.

"Breaking down the barriers of language and access to healthcare - one community at a time."

Dr. Yun delivered in-depth lectures covering a wide range of eye health topics and common ophthalmological conditions. His goal was clear: to bridge the gap in healthcare access and help attendees better understand their eye health in their own language, with guidance from a trusted specialist.

First Eye Center remains committed to supporting eye health both locally in Seoul and globally, through outreach events, international consultations, and continued innovation vision care.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us at these seminars. First Eye Center will continue to bring world-class eye care closer to communities around the world. 😊

First Eye Center - Vision Correction Guide

What to Expect Before, During and After SMILE Pro Surgery

Imagine waking up and seeing the world clearly - no glasses on the nightstand, no fumbling for contacts.

SMILE Pro (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is making that a reality for millions worldwide. But like any surgical procedure, knowing what to expect at every stage makes all the difference. This guide walks you through the entire journey - from your first consultation to full recovery.

01 Before the Surgery

- Pre-operative Examination

- Stop Wearing Contact Lenses

- Arrange Transportation

02 During the Surgery

The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes for both eyes.

1. Anesthetic Eye Frops Applied

2. The ZEISS VisuMax800 Laser - the femtosecond laser creates a small disc of lenticule inside the cornea and a tiny incision of just 2-4mm => no flap needed. This takes about 8-10 seconds per eye.

3. Protective Lens

03 After the Surgery

First 24 hours: rest and avoid screens as much as possible. Your vision may be mildly blurry or hazy. Use prescribed eye drops and wear protective eye shields when sleeping.

Days 1 - 7: most patients notice significantly improved vision within the first day. Avoid rubbing your eyes, sweimming, and dusty environments.

Managing Dry Eyes: some temporary dryness or mild light sensitivity is normal. Preservative-free artificial tears are recommended regularly.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Laser for Dry Eyes

IPL is a therapy for dry eye disease, especially when caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). It gently heats the eyelid area, clearing blocked glands and stabilizing the tear film. It also kills bacteria and mites and decreases inflammation by targeting abnormal blood vessels.

Evaporative dry eye is not only a source of great discomfort for patients, it can greatly increase the risk of eye infection, inflammation, and abrasions, even corneal ulcers and vision loss. IPL has been shown to effectively target one of the root causes of dry eye,  meibomian gland dysfunction  and improve symptoms and outcomes.
