What to Expect Before, During and After SMILE Pro Surgery
Imagine waking up and seeing the world clearly - no glasses on the nightstand, no fumbling for contacts.
SMILE Pro (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is making that a reality for millions worldwide. But like any surgical procedure, knowing what to expect at every stage makes all the difference. This guide walks you through the entire journey - from your first consultation to full recovery.
- Pre-operative Examination
- Stop Wearing Contact Lenses
- Arrange Transportation
02 During the Surgery
The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes for both eyes.
1. Anesthetic Eye Frops Applied
2. The ZEISS VisuMax800 Laser - the femtosecond laser creates a small disc of lenticule inside the cornea and a tiny incision of just 2-4mm => no flap needed. This takes about 8-10 seconds per eye.
3. Protective Lens
03 After the Surgery
First 24 hours: rest and avoid screens as much as possible. Your vision may be mildly blurry or hazy. Use prescribed eye drops and wear protective eye shields when sleeping.
Days 1 - 7: most patients notice significantly improved vision within the first day. Avoid rubbing your eyes, sweimming, and dusty environments.
Managing Dry Eyes: some temporary dryness or mild light sensitivity is normal. Preservative-free artificial tears are recommended regularly.
